Local Assistance Network • Funding for Community Care Grants / Crisis Loans has been transferred to County Councils • WSCC have set up a network of organisations to provide support to anyone who • is facing an unforeseeable emergency or disaster that puts them at risk of harm • requires assistance moving into, or remaining in, the community • In addition to household goods, we will provide • food, fuel top-ups and emergency travel vouchers

  3. How We Have Made a Difference In the previous financial year we helped: • 132 individuals by giving them £20,285 worth of goods • On average each person received £154 of goods

  4. How We Have Made a Difference – The Local Assistance Network In the current financial year we have so far helped more than double last years number. • We have helped over 340 people by giving them over £42,000 worth of goods and services • We have given out 74 fuel cards and well over 100 food parcels

  6. Donations to LAN Individuals • 73 Beds with a value of £2,630 • 51 Wardrobes £3,060 • 63 Sofas £3,150 • 51 Tables £2,550 • 80 Chest of Drawers £2,000 • White Goods (FF, WM, MW etc) £18,000 • 79 Linen and Kitchen Packs £1,580

How We Have Made a Difference – Donations to Charities In the current financial year we have so far helped more than double last years number. • Previous financial year we gave over £8,000 worth of goods to charities • This year it is already double at £16,000 • including Amber Foundation, St Catherine’s Hospice, Cancer Research, Willow Riding School, The Ark, Faith in Action, Oasis, Fire Brigade, Nymans, Samaritans, Homestart

  8. Donations to Charities • Over 900 bags of clothes, £9,000 • £480 of Linens • 240 Crates of Books, £2,400 • 156 crates of Toys, £3,120 • £900 of Riding Equipment

  10. Sales Summary • In 2010/11 we had 2 weeks over £7000 • In 2011/12 we had 10 weeks over £7000 • In 2012/13 we had 1 week over £7000 • In 2013/14 we had 13 week over £7000 including 3 weeks over £8000

  11. Logistics Summary • We made just under 600 deliveries and just over 600 Collections financial year to date • This is a 33% increase on the previous year • We have also successfully moved 15 Saxon Weald clients so far under the Relocation Scheme • Taken more than 72 metric tonnes to the tip

  12. Community Youth Work TEAM • 4 Full Time Youth Workers in post • 1 Youth Work Degree Student (up to 20 hour/week) • 2 Sessional Youth Workers • Over 20 volunteers (in clubs/activities & admin) PLUS • Soon to recruit 4 more Sessional Youth Workers

  14. Advocacy • Over 60 young people supported to date • 10 – 25 year olds • short-term help making their voice & feelings heard when they are not able, or don’t feel able to do so themselves • e.g. court appearances, benefit appointments/forms, debt, housing ….

Mocktails Apprentice Project Project aims to challenge young people to: • explore safe & responsible alternatives to alcohol • develop employment skills MAP team is led by Horsham Matters and consists of: • Dann Morris (new Horsham Matters MAP Development Worker) • Horsham Matters Youth Work Team • 35 different local businesses, charities, statutory organisations and agencies – more coming on board all the time IN 2013 THE TEAM WORKED WITH OVER: • 700 13-14 YR OLDS • 900 11 YR OLDS • 300 MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC

Student Feedback …. • 90% enjoyed taking part in MAP • 93% said MAP was a fun, interesting way to learn alcohol education • 88% said they would choose a Mocktail as an alternative to alcohol • 87% said MAP helped them develop business/employability skills • Teachers Feedback … • 100% said they would recommend MAP to other schools

  17. 2014 ….. • Continue working in secondary schools • Continue partnering with businesses & agencies to improve alcohol awareness & education • Work more closely with Sussex Safer Roads Partnership especially ‘Drink or Drive’ campaigns

  19. Night Shelter • Runs from December 1st 2013 until March 15th 2014 • Total of 14 guests from all walks of life • 128 bed nights in December, averaging six guests per night • Three found accommodation, 1 with family, 1 with rehab, 1 with Y centre • 7 were referred but did not need the shelter • 4 stayed a couple of night before finding alternative

Horsham District foodbank • Set up in association with the Trussell Trust which runs foodbanks nationally • Launched 27th January 2014 in Horsham and Henfield • Open Wednesday 4pm-6pm at The Christian Life Centre, Friday 1pm-3pm at the Quaker Meeting House in Horsham • Open Friday 10am-12noon at the Free Church in Henfield

  21. Horsham District foodbank • Clients are referred to the foodbank from agencies such as the CAB and District Council • Food parcels provide enough food for three days, including cereal, tea/coffee, meat, pasta and fruit • Food has come from a weekend supermarket collection at Tesco, and from donations from churches and individuals

  22. Other Activities • Apprenticeship Programme • Jordan and Phil enrolled at Central Sussex College on a Customer Service apprenticeship course in August • John and Dan have almost completed their NVQ2 • Removal Assistance • £20,000 from Saxon Weald to set up a new Relocation service

  23. Future Plans • Additional shop • Bulky Items Collection • Second-hand office furniture / equipment • Housing acquisition / management
