A STAR IS BORN! • Mobile Health WG: the newbie was formally launched at May’12 WGM • First full WG meeting took place in Sep’12 at Baltimore WGM • Group meets every Friday at 11am EST • Listserv: mobilehealth@lists.hl7.org • Wiki: http://wiki.hl7.org/index.php?title=Mobile_Health • Active participation by many “HL first timers”

  3. 0 to 60 in 3 months  Multiple (active) Sub Groups: • Definition, Scope and Context (DEF) • Education and Communication (EDU-COM) • External Standards Gap Analysis (EXT-STD) • Low to Medium Income Countries (LMIC) • Security (SEC) • Standards Gap Analysis - PHR/Mobile (STD-GAP) • Use Case Development/ Scenario (UCD)

  4. Serious Stuff#1: MHWG MISSION • The HL7 Mobile Health Work Group creates and promotes health information technology standards and frameworks for mobile health.

  5. Serious Stuff#2: MHWG CHARTER • Identify data standards and functional requirements that are specific to the mobile health environment • Identify and promote mobile health concepts for interoperability as adopted and adapted for use in the mobile environment • Coordinate and cooperate with other groups interested in using mobile health to promote health, wellness, public health, clinical, social media, and other settings. • Provide a forum where HL7 members and stakeholders collaborate in standardizing to enable the secure exchange, storage, analysis, and transmission of data and information for mobile applications and/or mobile devices.

  6. Reaching Out… • Free tutorial on “HL7’s Mobile Health Activities” by Ann Wrightson (HL7 UK) • Phoenix’13 WGM (Q3-Sedona 3) • 1st Newsletter (Quarterly?) by the WG: in publication • Trial by fire • Looking into participating in a Large Scale Pilot-project in Africa, India

Rolling Out… • Pilot-project to provide access to healthcare in (underserved) rural regions, leveraging: • Health Care Standards framework • Mobile Health Technology platform • Health-Tech Workers (new care team member category) • Cloud Computing infrastructure • Alternate Energy –Powered Devices • Initial Target population: subset of 3 million household • Subsequent: over 100M!!!

Activities: India • Pilot-project to provide access to healthcare in (underserved) rural regions, leveraging: • Health Care Standards framework • Mobile Health Technology platform • Health-Tech Workers (new care team member category) • Cloud Computing infrastructure • Alternate Energy –Powered Devices • Working with Non-Government Organizations and Grassroots organizations • Targeting District (Purulia) population: 3 million

Activities: India (continued) • Target populations: Women and Children • In-utero: • Pregnancy monitoring • Pregnancy and post-pregnancy education • Neo natal: • Birth registry • National Person Identifier • Midwife training • Early childcare: • Immunization • Nutrition • Allergies, intolerances, sensitivities • Wellness education

Activities: Niger • Face-to-face meeting with Ministry of Public Health officials in April 2012; ongoing discussions • Reviewing the (government-provided) National System for Public Health modernization plan • Niger is keen to receive international input / help in meeting its modernization plan • Intend to propose a project that is similar to the India project
