A- Attendance, Absences, AR (Accelerated Reader), Assessment, and Art ATTENDANCE • 8:05am Warning Bell - line #19 • 8:10 School starts (*8:10-8:15 Schoolwide PE) ABSENCES • Call school • Schedule appointments after school if possible • Before 2:10, sign child out in the office and office will call teacher • AR (Accelerated Reader)- computer base reading • Every child in 2nd Grade: Quizzes and Goal NO MORE STAR TEST. New: MAP Assessment • AR BOOKFINDER http://www.arbookfind.com ART (V.A.P.A) 2nd grade emphasis: Visual Art Art teacher Ms. Costilla during teacher release and TOSA

  4. C-Computers, Conferences and Curriculum Chromebooks- Carts • Everyday for half day • No need to sign a permission slip. Opt out form if you do not wish your child to use school computers- please talk to teacher CONFERENCES • Report cards-EVERYONE (first trimester).   8. G-Grades • 4-Advanced=above grade level standards (100%-95%) • 3-Proficient=on grade level standards (94%-75%) • 2-Basic=below grade level standards (74%-70%) • 1-Below/Far Below Basic=below grade level standards (69% and below) • E-Excellent/S-Satisfactory/P- Progressing/ N-Growth Needed

H and I-Homework and Independent Study HOMEWORK • 10 minutes (worksheets)+ 20 minutes(reading log) a day • Take home on Monday and return on Friday • Homework will be checked but not graded • Incomplete or messy homework-recess academy Independent Study • If absent for 5 or more unexcused days, notify the teacher or office at least 2 weeks in advance and we will set an Independent Study Contract

  10. J and K-Jobs and Keep in Mind.. JOBS • to learn responsibilities at school and at home. KEEP IN MIND ..that childhood is a journey, not a race! All children are different and special in their own ways!! KEEP IN MIND..that we are a team!!!

  11. L-Library and Lunch LIBRARY: • Once a week check out with library tech • Once a month: time with librarian • 2 Library books- take home • Local Library LUNCH 11:00-11:40 • Grades 1-3 • NEW: Play first and then eat

  12. M- Music, Medication and Mission Music Music teacher Ms. Simmons- Release and Tosa MEDICATION • NO medication allowed in class. Office staff will be responsible • Health Alert- Let teacher know SCHOOL MISSION- New mission coming soon (V.A.P.A.) • We believe students will achieve both academically and socially as measured by Similar School Ranking, CST scores, Benchmark scores and internal measurement scores. Students need to be prepared for the school, work, social, and technological worlds and such rules inherent each world with the flexibility, academic skill and emotional intelligence necessary to be successful with peers and adults and the children of their future.

  14. O-Open Door and Open House OPEN DOOR • Come and visit our classrooms • Volunteers are always welcome! • Sign in at the office first OPEN HOUSE No open house but instead Puptastic: TBD ( Most likely in April)

  15. P-P.E. and Parent Support P.E.- Everyday Wear comfortable shoes and clothes everyday • Schoolwide 8:10-8:15 • P.E. Teacher Mr. Craig- 2 times a week • Dance PTA Support PTA- membership $8 Parent Support: If you are able to volunteer in the classroom, please let me know. • Chance to work with children on math skills, reading skills, and writing skills • Chance to observe your child

RESPONSIBILITIES • Keep track of your own books assignments. • Start your work on time and allow time to finish. • Ask for help when you need it. • Do your own work. • Turn your work in on time. • Accept responsibilities for grades and other consequences. CONSEQUENCES/REWARDS • Time out( in room/buddy room), recess academy, temporary loss of privileges or items, temporary removal from situations. • P.A.T. Time on Fridays-Preferred Activity Time/Classroom prizes • P.R.O.U.D.tickets/ RED tickets/ Dynamic Dolphin award

I promise you today that I’m here to provide your child with a quality education so he/she can learn and be ready to meet the challenges of the future. Please UNDERSTAND that we are a team and we will work together this year! Never hesitate to communicate with me!
