  2. Biographical Information Bach lived from 1685-1750. Born in Eisenach Died in Leipzig

  3. Family Bach married his cousin, Maria Barbara Bach in 1706 and had seven children. He married Anna Magdalena Wilcke in 1721 and had 13 more children. Only nine of his children lived to adulthood. Four became composers.

  4. Career and Influences • German organist and composer Dietrich Buxtehude was one of the best known influences on Bach’s music. The French music of the day also seemed to have a great influence on Bach’s music. Bach is best known for his organ pieces but also wrote for other instruments and orchestras.

Major Work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhHyeP8vkXY • Toccata and Fugue is Bach’s most easily recognizable piece. • It was used in a number of 1930s horror movies. • There is no specific reason for his writing this piece but there is a great deal of controversy dealing with if he is the true composer.
