  2. Competition 5:00 The formal process begins with the Call Room – this is where players go to sign in for their court either between 30 and 15 minutes prior to starting. Once on court and in designated boxes, players get 2 minutes warm-up with which they can practice. The game starts once the referee hands the jack to the first side and indicates to play (red always plays first). The jack must land and remain within the valid playing area of the court. The jack is fouled if it: • fails to remain across the v-line; • is played out of court; or • is played in violation. If the jack is fouled, then the jack will be played by the side who is due to play the following end(s) - until successful.

  3. 5:00 4:45 4:10 3:42 5:00 4:51 4:39 4:02 The player who plays the jack ball also plays the first coloured ball once signalled to do so. If a violation is committed, that side will continue to play until a ball lands and remains in the valid area of court or they run out of balls. The opposition side will they play once signalled. Again, if a violation is committed, that side will continue to play until a ball lands and remains in the valid area of court or they run out of balls. Playing the remaining balls The side to play next will be the side who are the furthest from the jack, unless they have run out of balls. This continues until both sides have run out of balls to play.

  4. At the moment of playing: the player, their sport assistant, their wheelchair and any equipment must not be touching or outside of the court markings – their designated playing box. When the ball is released, the player must also have at least one buttock in contact with the chair. After all balls have been played, including penalty balls, the referee will score the end and verbally announce this and say “End Over”. The BC3 sport assistant will then be allowed to turn and look at the play but no measures or change to the score will take place. Officials, players and sport assistants then retrieve the balls for the beginning of the next end.

  5. Jack knocked out of court • If the jack is knocked out of court during play, it is placed on the cross in the middle. If a ball is already on the cross, the jack well be placed as close as possible in front and centre of the cross. The side furthest from the jack will then play. If there are no coloured balls on court after the jack has been placed on the cross, the side who hit the jack out of court is to play. If two or more balls of different colour are equidistant from the jack and no other balls are closer, it is the side that played last must play again. The side to play will alternate until the equidistant is disturbed or one side is out of balls. If two or more balls are accidentally played simultaneously by one side when it is that side’s turn to play, both balls are left. If in the referee’s opinion there was intention to gain advantage if time is running out then both balls are removed.

  6. Dropped ball If a player accidentally drops a ball, the referee can allow that player to replay that shot. If the referee determines that there was a deliberate attempt to propel the ball, the player won’t be allowed to replay that shot. There are no limits on the number of dropped balls. Referee error If the wrong side plays, the ball(s) are returned to the appropriate players and the time is amended until agreed by all parties. If any balls have been disturbed and cannot be fixed, the end is called ‘disrupted’ and replayed from beginning. Coaches and substitutes Coaches and substitutes are to sit in the defined area at the end of the court.

  7. Movement on court With the exception of the playing box lines in manoeuvring the chair in preparation for the next shot, the permission of the referee must always be sought before moving from the designated boxes. After the referee has indicated which side to play, the side throwing may leave their box to: investigate the position of balls in court. observe scoring procedure and measurements Only in matters of dispute or confusion, the clock must be stopped. BC3 players can not go into other boxes to prepare their shot. If any player needs assistance to go onto the court, they may ask the referee or linesperson to assist them.

  8. Scoring 2-0 is the final score of the end, since the third closest ball to the jack is of different colour than the two first. Scoring takes place by the referee after all balls have been played by both sides, including penalty balls. The side with the ball closest to the jack will score one point and one for each additional ball closer to the jack than the opponent’s closest ball. Second point If two or more balls are equidistant from the jack and no other balls are closer, each ball receives one point. First point Points are accumulated across all ends, with the side with the highest at the end of the game determined the winner. If the scores a equal, a tie break is played. The referee may call captains or players forward if measuring or discussion is to take place.

  9. Tie Break A tie break consists of one extra end. All players remain in their original boxes. The jack ball is placed in the middle on the cross. The side who wins the coin toss will choose who plays first. The jack ball for the side playing first is used. Normal rules are followed. If at the end, both sides are equal distance from the jack, a second tie break is played. This time the opposite side will begin.
