  2. Our Mission Promote the needs of the military community of Indiana; this includes Veterans, AC Service Members, NG Service Members, Reservist, surviving spouses, retirees & their families. We encourage the IN Government to enact legislation recognizing the honor brought to the state and nation by their service. We communicate through personal contact, with the media and via website to government representatives of Indiana and other agencies as necessary. The vision is to make IN a veteran / military friendly state as recognized by IN’s ranking among all the states. Want IN to be top 10 positive. Seek state, local government, not for profit organizations, & private enterprises to think and act positively thinking of veterans and military first when undertaking action.

  3. Why we matter "ACE" organization. "A"dvocatein Indiana for Hoosiers and their families connected to our military.  We get things done at the Indiana General Assembly!  IE. ALL veterans to be eligible for The Military Family Relief Fund. "C"elebrateHoosier Heroes by promoting their successes.  The best & most visible example can be found at the Indianapolis Intl. Airport. TMVCI pushed to get the terminal and road leading into the airport named.  They designed, commissioned, raise all the money, and worked with the Airport Authority to erect a 7 foot tall bronze statue of Col H. Weir Cook.  "E" deals with educating the public about the contributions and needs of our military, veterans, retirees, surviving spouses and their families.  Many Hoosier (and travelers to Indianapolis) never heard of Col. Weir Cook; and they have no idea what he did for Indiana.  At the Airport on either side of the bronze Cook statue are waysides that tell the story-- educating all who see. Membership : $00.00

The Military / Veterans Coalition of IndianaSummary2018 Legislative Session Initiatives • Boost workforce and economic development opportunities through state income tax exemption of military pay • Boost veterans earned benefits through self funding additional County Veteran Service Officers where populations warrant via a lottery ticket proceeds • Keep and grow veteran population by recruiting at active duty instillations from the250,000 leaving the service annually. • Build effective outreach to veteran population by identifying who they are and where they live.

Workforce and Economic Development Impact Action • Market and recruit a high STEM skilled and experienced workforce as a magnet to attract higher tech, higher yield businessby eliminating barriers to workforce migration. • Eliminate reasons veterans go elsewhere to launch their second career. • Adequately staff heavily populated veteran areas.

Military Profile Workforce Component • Typical Retiree: 38 to 42 years old * Other: 24 to 35 years old • 20% officer and 80% enlisted mix earn on average $24k* mil pay annually • Each seek second employment plus spouse brings employable skills • Military Skills: leadership, management, operations, engineering, technology, mechanical, technical, education and emergency services • Experience: decision making in combat, team loyalty, work ethic • Entrepreneurially inclined – will create small businesses and jobs • SBA: “prior military service is the single best indicator of entrepreneurial success” • Former Military “Continue to Serve” as municipal, county and state leaders ... entrepreneurs ... teachers ... volunteers in schools and hospitals *Source: DoD pay tables 2015. Military Retiree ProfileEconomic Impact Component • Military retirement pay adds as much as $500 million annual investment in Indiana economy -- IF THEY COME HOME or NON-RESIDENTS STAY • 17k Hoosiers on active duty, less than 100 in Indiana • DoD estimates 30% retire/year • Present value of 20 year retirement over 40 years life expectancy is COLA-protected $300 mil for the 2016 cohort; Spouses an additional $200mil • Retirees + family covered by TriCare then later Medicare + Tricare for Life • Almost all service members leaving are veterans and get the GI Bill and other VA benefits.

Hoosiers aren’t coming home after serving • Our neighbors grew, we lost military & military retiree population • About 10,000 Indiana vets die annually. • Our military enlists about 5,000 from Indiana annually. BUT • Our veteran count has dropped about 7,000 to 8,000 annually. Therefore -- Indiana looses 2,000 to 3,000 veterans per year who do NOT die!

Coalition Proposes Solve • Address a portion of the skilled, experienced workforce shortfall • Take quality workforce away from the competition – other states How • Eliminating their reasons for not choosing Indiana as where they want to start their second career • Actively market and recruit experienced talent through a program integrating a recruiting model seeking upcoming military retirees and other service members (and their families) prior to their departing military service at US based military installations

  18. Coalition Proposes Solve • Providing additional funds to veterans enabling them to thrive in current community. • Providing a database of veterans & their location– and keeping it current. How • Hiring an additional county veteran service officer workforce in communities where veteran population exceeds capacity of current staff at no cost to state government by implementing a veterans lottery ticket. • Collecting data on who are Indiana veterans and where they live via driver license / ID card process. Accomplished by asking 2 questions and capturing the responses!
