  2. Black and White Segregation • White people thought that blacks were not capable of learning at an advanced level • Grade 5 was the maximum grade level for blacks • Black teachers received lower salaries even though they served high quality work www.historycommons.org

  3. Daily School Life • Older students had part time jobs to help their families • They were able to work as teachers, assistants, etc. in nearby schools • Poor children received free hot lunches from school • Students had normal school lives, but with limited resources www.dailymail.co.uk

  4. School Topics • Children often studied reading, writing, and grammar • Students attending industrial high schools learned about carpentry, car repair, brick laying, etc. • Subjects such as English, French, cursive, and arithmetic were also taught • Science was common among classes also

  5. Typical School Day • Most children brought lunch to school • All students from all grades would be in one room • Children walked to and from school all the time • Schoolbooks/textbooks were barely used in classes • Schools had teams sports and P.E. classes blog.uber.com

  6. School Attendance • Students’ attendance to school varied throughout the years • It depended on what school each student went to • Most children had to drop out of school to help their families • Kids failed to go to finish school because of limited resources history1900s.about.com

In Conclusion… • Many people went to school during this time period • The effect that it had on individuals created a big impact • Education among children has shaped the world that we have today • Economy has a big role to play in matters of keeping a nation safe • The life we have today has improved compared to what was endured in the 1930s
