Biogas Powered Cars Vs. Electric Cars

Biogas fuel is one of the accepted Alternative Fuel Sources in the world today. One of the biggest benefits of refining biogas via biogas upgrading is that it allows you to convert your petrol or diesel fueled car into a BioCNG based one.

  1. Biogas Powered Cars Vs. Electric Cars It is common knowledge that both electric and biogas (BioCNG) powered vehicles are good for the environment and cheaper to run than the petroleum-driven ones. This makes many eco-enthusiasts debate about which of the two reigns supreme. With large-scale manufacturers such as Tesla and Nissan supporting electric cars, people may get tempted to switch to the voltaic team, but BioCNG powered cars have their own benefits. One of the main benefits of refining biogas via biogas upgrading is that it allows you to convert your petrol or diesel fueled car into a bioCNG based one. Besides, it can take years for India to have fully functional electric car stations for recharging while we already have BioCNG stations. Moreover, bioCNG based cars are even supported by the Indian Government with subsidies on refueling, upgrading, etc. If this isn’t enough reason to get a bioCNG powered car, you can do the comparison of electric and bioCNG cars given below: Efficiency Efficiency is a commonly misunderstood term when it comes to ‘alternate fuel cars’. In this case, efficiency means the ability to convert input energy (BioCNG or Electricity) into kinetic energy. Many BioCNG powered cars have similar

  2. efficiencies to petrol powered cars, but in this category, electric cars take the win. This is because electric cars directly convert electricity to motion while bioCNG needs to burn which causes a lot of energy to be lost to entropy. Even so, BioCNG is cheaper than electricity in most Indian cities. Range Range is one of the key factors that people consider while shifting away from petrol, as they want to get the most distance out of each time they refuel or recharge. And BioCNG wins hands down here as most bioCNG cars with 15 gallons of fuel storage can get 300 miles (~550 km) out of a full tank, while electric cars tend to top out at around 100 miles. Recharge Time This is pretty obvious; refueling a BioCNG car takes just as much time as a petrol car, while an electric car can take hours to charge up. Moreover, the government of India plans to set up 5000 Biogas production plants by 2025 to support the shift to BioCNG from traditional fossil, which can help a BioCNG based car to refuel whenever required. BioCNG cars are the obvious winner here as besides being able to cover more distance than electric cars, they also help take care of our garbage problems. This helps make the country cleaner, greener and more pollution free than electric cars would since they run on electricity generated by burning coal.
