  1. By: Darren Mooney Roland Echols Stephen Austin Meaghan McBay Electric Cars

  2. Why They Are Useful • Can reduce carbon dioxide and other global warming emissions. • Drivers save an average of $750 to $1,200 compared to operating a gasoline car.

  3. Problems With Gas Cars • Greenhouse Gas/Pollution • 12 cents per mile

  4. Where Are They Used? • U.S. With 70% of total electric cars in the world • Japan with 16% • Netherlands with 8% • China, France, and Norway with 6%

  5. How These Areas Are Benefited • Electric operations reduce tailpipe emissions, greenhouse gases, and allows the use of cleaner, renewable, and environmentally friendly energy source.

  6. How Electric Cars Hurt The Environment • Electric Car production proved substantially more environmentally intensive • The global warming potential of the process used to make electric cars is twice that of conventional cars • Electric cars do not make sense if the electricity they consume is produced predominately by coal-fire stations.

  7. Should We Use This In Texarkana • Saves the environment • Decreases pollution • People can save money • Environmentally friendly

  8. Changing The World • Electric motors produce maximum torque • Faster than a gas-powered car • Easier to fuel than a gas-powered car

  9. Way Of The Future • Can be made by wind power, solar power, geothermal heat, etc. • Will benefit from advancements in batteries, motors, electronic management, and charging. • This also dovetails nicely with the advent of more renewable electricity generation.

  10. President’s Goal • President Barack Obama plans on having 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. • Initial costs and lack of familiarity with technology could be barriers. • For that reason, President Barack Obama has proposed steps to accelerate America’s leadership in electric vehicle deployment.

  11. Fun Facts • You can use a home power outlet to charge them • They’re quite • They can be fast- really fast • They’ve been around for over 180 years • They’re selling well • The range is getting better • SUVs are going electric • Celebrities love them • Car companies haven’t always been excited Electric vehicles • You can do it yourself!
