  3. Suitcase Drive for the Scioto County Homeless Shelter • 2011 SR Manual • Went strongly with Novel Destination theme. • Contacted shelter • Was a definite need for this area.

  4. Unemployment In the State of Ohio Scioto County is currently ranked 3rd in unemployment. Pike County, our neighbor to the north, has the highest unemployment. http://ohiolmi.com/laus/Ranking.pdf

  5. Getting The Word Out • Flyers • Newspaper • Radio • Summer Reading Packet • Brochure • Bookmark • Program Slip • Work with other corporation • The Salvation Army

  6. The Salvation Army Address: 1001 9th St Portsmouth, OH 45662-4197 Phone: (740) 353-2400 Anyone in need is eligible to pick up 10 free items of clothing from your local Salvation Army. To receive items you are asked to bring: · Photo ID · Social Security Card · Or Proof Of Income This service is available once per season. Hours: Monday & Wednesday: Noon-2pm Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 9:30am - 2pm • Contacted closest location. • Confirmed their information. • Collected thorough • explanation of their services. • Received approval of slip before using.

Results • Cargo van full of suitcases and toiletries. • (50+ suitcases and bags) • Large community involvement. • Now asking about next Community Outreach Programs. • Assisted in sign-ups for SR Program. • Created strong relationships between PPL, Shelter, and Salvation Army for future programs.

  9. Tips for your next Community Outreach Program • Find out what your community would need. • Don’t be afraid to ask for input or partnerships from other organizations. • Always be sure to announce progress to community and ALWAYS thank your patrons and those who contributed.
