Kennedy Assassination • November 22, 1963, Kennedy was shot in a motorcade in Dallas, TX by Lee Harvey Oswald. • Jack Ruby then shot Oswald leading to conspiracy theories • Warren Commission- investigated and found no conspiracy • Vice President Lyndon B Johnson was worn in as the new president on a plane to Washington, DC.

Johnson’s Great Society • LBJ continued Kennedy’s domestic policies • Civil Rights Act of 1964 • War on Poverty • Job Core: paid high school drop-outs while they trained for industrial jobs • VISTA: (Volunteers in Service to America) volunteers in depressed areas in the US teaching people new skills • Head Start: preschool program • Medicare: medical insurance for those over 65 • HUD: (Department of Housing and Urban Development) • Problem: money ran out due to Vietnam War
