  1. Project: IEEE 802.15 Study Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [SFD Design] Date Submitted:[June 2006] Source: [Zafer Sahinoglu]: Company1 [Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, Inc.] Address [201 Broadway, 8th floor, Cambridge, MA 02139] Voice: [(617) 621 7588] Re: [802.15.4a] Abstract: [] Purpose: [discuss SFD design options] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor acknowledges and accepts that this contribution becomes the property of IEEE and may be made publicly available by P802.15.

  2. Objective • There are two SFDs • Short SFD for the high data rate option • Long SFD for the low data rate option • Long SFD is redesigned because it was broken in D2 (Thanks to Vern and Francois) • There is still a very large margin to improve the long SFD

  3. The SFD in D3: SFD-B SS1 SS1 SS #1 SS #1 SS #3 SS #2 SS #4 SS #3 SS #4 SS #2 SFD B

  4. SFD B SS #1 SS #1 SS #3 SS #2 SS #4 SS #3 SS #4 SS #2 Correlation Properties of SFD-B • SS #1 = [ - 0 0 0 + - 0 - ] • SS #2 = [ + 0 0 0 - + 0 + ] • SS #3 = [ 0 - + + 0 0 + 0 ] • SS #4 = [ 0 + - - 0 0 - 0 ] Coherent Side-lobe: 9 SFD-B SFD-B Non-Coherent side-lobe: 12 |SFD-B| 2*|SFD-B|-1

  5. Recommended SFD Sequences SFD Z 0+0-+00- -00+0-0+0+000-0-0-00+0--0-+0000++00---+-++0000++ 0+0-+00- SFD F -00+0+0- -00+0+0- +0+0000++00+00---+-0++-0000000++-00+-0--+--0-000

  8. Comparison Table Autocorrelation side-lobes of the LONG SFD Code Type Side-lobe (Coherent) Side-lobe (Non-Coherent) {-6, +4} {-8,+5} SFD-Z {-7, +6} {-7,+5} SFD-F Autocorrelation side-lobes of the Short SFD Code Type Side-lobe (Coherent) Side-lobe (Non-Coherent) {-1,+1} {-2,+1} SFD-Z {-1,+1} {-2,+1} SFD-F

  9. Summary • Suggestion • Adopt SFD Z or F as the long SFD in IEEE for the low data rate option • Adopt the first 8 bits of the SFD Z or F as the short SFD for the high data rate option
