  5. At Broomgrove, we use Letters and Sounds across Key Stage 1 and the EYFS. There are 6 phases in letters and sounds. It is a structured programme in which teaching follows a set sequence: Revist/review Teach Practice Assess Phonics Scheme

  9. Letters representing a phoneme e.g. c ai igh GRAPHEME Children need to practise recognising the grapheme and saying the phoneme that it represents.

  10. Recognising the letter sounds in a written word, for example c-u-p and merging or ‘blending’ them in the order in which they are written to pronounce the word ‘cup’ Blending for reading

Visit the phonic pages on the school website • Use games to encourage your child’s phonic development, including apps • Read as much as possible to and with your child. • Encourage and praise – get them to have a ‘good guess’.
