  10. 2.1 IMPORTANCE OF POSITIVE LIFESTYLE • Increases the level of PF • Better co-ordination of mind & body. • Increases strength , flexibility & endurance. • Improves posture • Increases self confidence • Prevents Cardio – vascular disease • Reduces extra body fat. • Strengthens heart.

  11. Cardio-vascular Fitness Coordinative Abilities 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS Components of Physical Fitness Endurance Strength Flexibility Speed Agility

  12. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Speed • It is performance pre-requiste to do motor action under given conditions. • Speed appears in different forms in various sports. • Speed development is done by practicing with a faster rhythm, repetition method & intensive interval method.

  13. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Strength • Ability to over come resistance. • Facilitates the ability to resist disease as it affects organic efficiency . • It is achieved by voluntary muscle contraction caused by the neuro -muscular speed. • Exercising with sand bags , isometric exercise, weight lifting, push up etc. help in developing strength.

  14. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Endurance • Ability to resist fatigue. • Various method for improving endurance are: Continuous method Repetition method Competition method Interval method

  15. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Flexibility • Capacity of a muscle to extend without any damage and range of movement at a joint. • Muscles and ligaments can be stretched & can regain normal length without any adverse effect on the concerned tissues. • Inter-relationship with other performance factors. • Energy saving , as allows movement with minimum muscle tension & internal resistance.

  16. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Flexibility (cont.) • Helps in prevention of injuries. • General Flexibility: Denotes flexibility of important joints of the body e.g. hip, shoulder, trunk. • Special Flexibility: Ability to do sports movement with greater amplitude. • Slow stretch, ballistic, hold methods improves flexibility.

  17. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Cardio Vascular Fitness • Develops and strengthen heart muscles and blood vessels. • Individuals with CVF have slower pulse rate and greater buffering capacity to blood vessels & muscles which delays fatigue. • Long distance running, swimming, trekking develops CVF.

  18. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Coordinative Abilities • To execute a sequence of movements smoothly and accurately • It covers motor fitness and motor abilities. • General Coordinative Ability : daily routine works like, eating food, walking, cycling etc. • Specific Coordinative Ability : technical sports require highly developed coordinative abilities like rhythm, accuracy, constancy etc. • Can be improved by regular physical exercises.

  19. 2.2 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS • Agility • Agility is the ability to be quick and graceful. • Agility can be used for both mental and physical skills in speed and grace. • Various drills and exercises for improving agility.
