Working with Vulnerable Children • Recognition of vulnerability • Assessment of that risk and vulnerability • Making appropriate referrals according to the child’s vulnerability • Supporting the child/young person via : developing effective action plans maintaining accurate records participating in : the child protection process Child in Need process Common Assessment Framework • Liaison with key professionals e.g. school teachers, health visitors, GPs ,Connexions. • Provision of drop-in sessions at school to promote their accessibility

  3. Recognition of and assessment of vulnerability • Skills developed by attending mandatory annual training either HSCB or HCT (specifically “Assessing risk and vulnerability” and “Hidden Risks”) • Mandatory attendance at 1-1 Safeguarding Children Supervision a minimum of 4 monthly • Access to ad-hoc advice from the Safeguarding Children Team

  4. Making appropriate referrals according to the child’s vulnerability • Recognition of vulnerability • Assessment of that risk and vulnerability • Effective referrals that pinpoint specific risks according to child’s age and stage of development ( including social needs, complex needs, special educational needs, disabilities)

  5. Child in Need process • Referrals for CIN • Attendance at CIN meetings • Liaison with other professionals involved in CIN process

  6. Participating in the child protection process: • Adherence to Policies and Procedures • Clear reports with risk analysis • Reports reviewed by Safeguarding Nurse • Sent to Chair of case conference in advance

  7. Common Assessment Framework • Generate CAF’s • Lead Professionals in many cases

  8. Developing effective action plans and maintaining accurate records • Based on analysis of the risks and the needs of the child • Review dates

  9. Maintaining accurate records • Attendance at recordkeeping training • Records required to reflect professional body and HCT record-keeping policy • Scrutinised at SafeguardingChildren Supervision

  10. Miscellaneous • Liaison with key professionals e.g. school teachers, health visitors, GPs ,Connexions. • Provision of drop-in sessions at school to promote their accessibility
