It’s all connected... • Rising sea levels • Number of tropical storms Global Warming • Global warming is the primary cause of current sea level rise • Human activities, such as burning coal and oil and cutting down tropical forests, have increased atmospheric concentrations of heat-trapping gases and caused the planet to warm by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880.

  5. Even Earthquakes While it's difficult to definitively link an earthquake to human activity scientists have found compelling evidence of human contributions to a number of quakes. • Taking Groundwater • Geothermal Power Plants • Dams and reservoirs construction

  6. Soil Erosion • Soil erosion occurs naturally by wind or harsh climatic conditions but… • Humans can effect the soil by: • Overgrazing • Overcropping • Deforestation

  7. Renewable or Non-Renewable? - With a partner distinguish between these resources.

  8. Renewable Resources - Resources than can be replenished. -These include biomass, water, geothermal, wind, and solar -Positives: significantly less pollution and most importantly, renewable energy are available everywhere throughout the world thus there is no chance of the sources becoming depleted in future.  -Negatives: expensive to produce and replenish slowly.

  9. Non-Renewable Resources - Resources than CAN NOT be replenished. -Nonrenewable energy sources come out of the ground as liquids, gases, and solids.  -Positives: easy to transport and cost of production -Negatives: POLLUTION and when they are gone there is no coming back
