  2. What is SIMC? • A technology-neutral collaboration of industry practitioners • A partnership between purchasers and vendors • Goal: To improve the quality of “infrastructure software” provided by software vendors to the Securities Industry

  3. How the Council Works • By providing a forum in which our industry’s requirements can be articulated • By providing assessments of specific software and systems in our context • By focusing the purchasing intent of multiple firms on meeting these objectives in a common way

  4. Experimental Relationship with TOG • Integration of PKI and DCE authentication • Allow industry specific organizations to participate in The Open Group process • SIMC agreed to provide input to the PKI and DCE authentication integration

  5. PKI Initiative - Current Status • Proposal to use PKINIT and Crypto Message Syntax(CMS) • CMS is widely used standard for S/MIME • CMS Toolkits shipped by most PKI vendors • Only slight modification to DCE 1.2.2 PKINIT

  6. PKI Initiative - Benefits • PKI vendor neutral • No changes to PKI software • Minor changes to DCE 1.2.2 PKINIT implementation • Allows migration to CDSA • Supported by DCE vendors and TOG

  7. What does this mean? • DCE authentication using X.509 v3 certificate • Role mapping interface available • Any device that can send S/MIME message can do a dce_login • And…...
