Depending on what the reseachhopes to understand, a methodology is chosen/developed • Commonly the researcherdrawsfromexistingliterature to formulate the specificmethodology for theirownresearch • The research is notassessedbased on howwellitmatches a pre-existingmethodology, butbased on howwellitdoeswhatit is supposed to do. WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO, DEPENDS ON THE RESEARCH GOAL AND ORIENTATION 
