  6. SOLUTIONS A number that is a solution of an equation satisfies the equation.

  7. SOLUTIONS For example 3 is a solution of 2x = 6 because: 3 satisfies the equation.

  8. PROCEDURE: Solving Equations by Adding or Subtracting 1. Simplify both sides if necessary.

  9. PROCEDURE: Solving Equations by Adding or Subtracting 2. Add or subtract the same numbers on both sides so that one side contains only variables.

  10. PROCEDURE: Solving Equations by Adding or Subtracting 3. Add or subtract the same expressions on both sides so that the other side contains only numbers.
