    1. The Acts of the Holy Spirit Acts 13:1-12

    3. Written by Luke the physician Luke most likely a Gentile making him the only gentile author of the bible He has been linked to Antioch and Phillipi Possibly a relative of Paul Romans 16:21 Timothy my fellow worker greets you, and so do Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my kinsmen.

    4. Paul Mentions Luke often Colossians 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, sends you his greetings, and also Demas. 2 Timothy 4:11 Only Luke is with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service. Philemon 23-24 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, 24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow workers.

    5. Luke uses We and Us throughout Acts Acts 16:10-17 When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. Acts 20:5-15 Acts 21:1-18 Acts 27:1-28:16

    6. Gospel of Luke 1:1-4 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

    7. Luke 24:45-53 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, " Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 "You are witnesses of these things.

    8. 49 "And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." 50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple praising God.

    9. Acts 1:1-8 NASU The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.

    10. 3 To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

    11. 4 Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

    12. 6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, "Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

    13. The Theme of the Book of Acts 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

    14. Key words throughout Jesus mentioned 71 times The Holy Spirit is mentioned 55 times Witness(es)(ed) used 18 times Love is used 0 times

    15. Acts likely written Before Paul’s death Eusebius of Caesarea states that Paul was beheaded in the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero. This event has been dated either to the year 64, when Rome was devastated by a fire, or a few years later, to 67.

    17. They Prayed and Obeyed…

    18. Great Commission And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, " All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

    19. Mark 16:15-20 15 And He said to them, " Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 " He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17 "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

    20. 19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.]

The Gospel Moves Outward Acts 1-7 Jerusalem/Judea Peter Acts 8 Samaria Peter Acts 9-12 Gentiles Peter Acts 13-14 First Missionary Journey Paul Acts 15 Jerusalem Conference Paul Acts 15-18 2nd Missionary Journey Paul Acts 18-21 3rd Missionary Journey Paul Acts 21-28 Paul On Trial Paul (Jerusalem, Caesarea, Rome)

    23. Acts 13:1-12 NASU Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

    24. The key to Power Ministry While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, Acts 13:2 "But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." Acts 6:4

    25. Deuteronomy 30:15-20 TLB 15 "Look, today I have set before you life and death, depending on whether you obey or disobey. 16 I have commanded you today to love the Lord your God and to follow his paths and to keep his laws, so that you will live and become a great nation, and so that the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to possess.

    26. 17 But if your hearts turn away and you won't listen-if you are drawn away to worship other gods- 18 then I declare to you this day that you shall surely perish; you will not have a long, good life in the land you are going in to possess.

    27. 19 "I call heaven and earth to witness against you that today I have set before you life or death, blessing or curse. Oh, that you would choose life; that you and your children might live! 20 Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey him and to cling to him, for he is your life and the length of your days. You will then be able to live safely in the land the Lord promised your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

    28. Back to Acts 13 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.

    29. 6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus, 7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.

    30. 8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 9 But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him, 10 and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?

    31. 11 "Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand. 12 Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.

    32. This Is A Classic Power Encounter “A Power Encounter is a practical, visible demonstration that the power of God is greater than the power of the spirits worshipped or feared by the members of a given social group or by individuals.” --Dr. C. Peter Wagner
