  3. Imagination Station Mrs. Hartgrove K-1 Do you like to create things? Then Imagination Station is the place for you! We’ll see what exciting things we can create from junk! You’ll be able to use your imagination to create something exciting. The only rule for your creation is that you have fun doing it!

  4. Fanciful Foamies Ms. Bowman K-1 Calling all creative kids! Do you enjoy making crafts for your friends and family? Using foam, stickers, and other media to make bookmarks, holiday crafts, or even finger puppets? Well each week you’ll cut, paste, and create foam crafts that will tickle your fancy.

  5. Happy Feet Mrs. Russell K-1 Do you like to move and groove your feet to the sound of music? Put on your dance shoes and let’s learn how to tap dance. We will have fun exercising and rolling on mats too! Hear the beat? Let’s move those feet. Happy Feet!

  6. K-1 Hand to Eye Power Ms. Starnes Come one, come all, we are going to have a ball. We will work on improving our coordination with our hand and eye, we may even find silly ways to move and play I SPY. We will use balloons, scarves, and a different kind of ball, to show you it doesn’t matter if you are big or small. If you practice and practice on your hand and eye coordination each Friday, you will be surprised what we learn on our way. You will be amazed what we juggle, catch, balance, or even a new silly way to Run. SO sign up to learn the power of Hand and Eye Fun!

  7. It’s All About Spanish Mrs. Kampa K-1 Students will engage in the Hispanic culture, communication, connections, comparisons, and communities around them. Students will also be engaged in authentic dances and sample authentic Hispanic dishes.

  8. KinderMusic Mrs. Blackwell and Mrs. Conrey K-1 . If you like to sing and dance, come join KinderMusic! KinderMusic helps develop early literacy and language skills, expand reasoning and early math skills, increase self-control, and nurture a lifelong love of music! We will listen, learn, and sing songs by Dr. Jean and other great artists. Come sing with us!

  9. Marvelous Math Games Mrs. O’Donnell K-1 Students will participate in such games as UNO, Dominoes, and Connect 4. We will make student file folder games. They will complete a math journal detailing what they learned after each session. Student will learn that they can do math without using paper and pencil!!

  10. Mother Goose is Loose! Mrs. Holt K-1 Nursery Rhymes provide a wealth of opportunities for beginning readers to learn skills necessary to become successful readers. (Tracking print left to right, words/letters, rhyming words, one to one matching, vocabulary development, etc.) In this cluster, students will learn traditional nursery rhymes and perform them using stick puppets and other crafts that they make. At the end of the cluster, the students will each have a collection of the nursery rhymes in a book as well as the puppets, etc. to perform the rhymes again and again. .

  11. Superhero Snackers Mrs. Kitts K-1 Superheroes wanted! Join us to make delicious snacks that will give you super strength. Learn about nutritious foods that give your body an ENERGY BOOST! You will make a cookbook fit for a hero that you can keep. *Please let us know if your child has any food allergies.

  12. 2nd - 3rd Enrichment Clusters

  13. Scrabble Babble Mrs. Edwards 2-3 Students will apply strategies to compete at the board game, SCRABBLE. They will create list of possible words to use during the challenge and demonstrate an understanding of the rules of the game. Students will be able to support and defend their words, and evaluate the opponents’ words. .

  14. Digital Storytelling Mrs. Phelan 2-3 Students will use computers, pictures, videos, narration and music to create, share and enhance stories. Students will select a topic, write the script, take the pictures/videos, import and arrange the images, add music and narration, edit and create a story using Moviemaker program. .

  15. Creative Dramatics with Puppets Mrs. Shepard 2-3 Students will listen to several short stories that have been retold. The group will then work together to write an original script for a retold story of their choice. Students will then make puppets and props for the play. Lastly, students will perform their play and puppets for younger students.

  16. Sunset Park Goes Green Ms. Nowell & Ms. Yianopolous 2-3 Students will create, design, observe and maintain a garden (flower, herb, and/or vegetable) with a focus on giving back to the Earth that is attractive and beneficial to the community. Students will create an earthworm farm to learn about decomposition and nourishing the soil. Students will set up a farmers’ market to sell flowers and herbs (for Mother’s Day) and vegetables.

  17. Creative Stitching Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Jones 2-3 Learn the basics used in Cross Stitch Embroidery. Use your skills and tools to create a unique design or choose from some pre-selected patterns.

  18. Leadership with Style and Character Development Mrs. Cato and Mrs. Ishmael 2-3 Are you a leader and a good role model? Do you like to take the initiative to help others? If so, this is the cluster for you. Students will be able to creatively learn leadership and character development skills through fun activities, speakers, and crafts. Other benefits include improving listening skills, critical thinking, communication skills, and social problem-solving skills through a series of hands-on activities and discussions.

  19. Scrappers – R – Us Mrs. Blackwell 2-3 Come one, come all! If you like photography, writing, art and scrapbooking, then you are the person we need. Scrappers R’ Us will photograph, journal, and create a scrapbook for teaching students in our primary grades. If you want the opportunity to show off your skills, join Scrappers R’ Us.

  20. Junior Achievement Mrs. Hale - Parent Volunteer 2-3 Do you want to be successful? Are you interested in money? Do you want to own your own business one day? Well if you do, Junior Achievement is the best way to learn about money and business as you make plans to improve the quality of your life

  22. The Great Debaters Mrs. T. Young 4-5 Are you strong willed, with strong opinions and love to express yourself verbally? Do you have views or issues that you think are not being addressed? Then you need to…Debate About It! Come and learn how to effectively have your opinion heard! You are the voice of the future!

  23. Sew What? Mrs. Passmore 4-5 Students will be engaged in various hand-sewing projects using various recycled fabric and clothing. Example projects are making mittens from old sweaters and t-shirt pillows.

  24. Crime Scene Investigation Mrs. Gifford 4-5 Students will solve crimes through observation, experiments, and deductive reasoning. Students will work in groups to collect evidence, analyze it, and eliminate suspects until the culprit is discovered. Each class will be a separate crime and each team will compete to solve the crime first.

  25. Speedminton Ms. Bundy 4-5 Speedminton is a new racquet sport that blends the games of badminton, racquetball and tennis. Speedminton is a high energy game that can be played at a recreational level or a competitive level. While fun, speedminton is a fun way to improve one’s fitness and coordination skills.

  26. Jr. Lego League’s Climate Connections Mrs. Shive 4-5 Students will conduct research about global climate change and the problems it presents. Then, they’ll begin an introductory exploration of physical science and technology elements using Lego’s in the search for solutions.

  27. Tone Chime Ringers Ms. Cooke 4-5 Tone Chime Ringers will learn to play tone chimes, a beautiful melodious instrument. Each student will be given a note to play and the group will work collaboratively to learn several tone chime pieces.

Well if you do, Junior Achievement is the best way to learn about money and business as you make plans to improve the quality of your life

  29. Who dun it??? Are you sure??? How’d ya do that??? Mrs. Williams 4-5 A mystery. A challenge. But you will love it!! This cluster is filled with mystery and strategies. The mystery begins with critical listening as the audience listens to short 5 minute who-done-it scenarios designed to make the audience listen for details in thought provoking stories in order to solve high level mysteries. Students will have the opportunity to participate in different strategies which will challenge the mind in ways of thinking and creativity.

  30. Hard Hatting in a Geoworld Mrs. O’Grady-Jones 4-5 Students will explore the math and science used in building structures from towers to bridges. Students will construct their own toothpick bridge according to specific standards. We will finish by testing the strength of each bridge.

  31. Mythology Madness Mrs. Bostic 4-5 If you want to learn about a woman who had snakes for hair, dogs with three heads, or King Midas’ Golden Touch, then you will want to come to Mythology Madness. Learn about monsters, heroes, gods, and goddesses of ancient Greece and Rome. Who were Zeus, Hercules, King Midas and Medusa? What was in Pandora’s Box? What was the answer to the riddle of the Sphinx? You will create your own mythical creature, write your own myth, or trace the family tree of Mount Olympus in Mythology Madness.

  32. New York, New York! Mrs. Ducharme 4-5 Can you say Broadway? In this cluster, students will have a chance to take the big stage while performing a Readers’ Theatre production. No acting experience necessary, but be prepared to be expressive!

  33. Pay it Forward: Changing the World One Step at a Time Mrs. C. Young 4-5 Are you a person who likes to help others and tries to make the world a better place by your attitude and actions? Here’s a cluster for you! Good ideas inspire more good ideas. Come join this cluster to learn about and inspire yourself and others to make social changes that make our school and community a more positive and caring place in which to live.

  34. Culinary Cuisine Mrs. Schlauch 4-5 Do you love to eat? Well why don’t you try your hand at cooking? Students in this enrichment cluster will design, plan and cook a favorite dish. We will sample some ourselves and make enough to share with a local shelter.

  35. Drama Queens & Kings Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Broughton 4-5 Come and use your drama skills to write, produce, and star in your very own show. We will work together to create the best show Sunset Park has ever seen! You have to be a hard worker who enjoys fun!

  36. Multi-Grade Level Enrichment Clusters

  37. German Videos Your are the Teacher, You are the Star! Frau Snyder K-5 Students will audition to be cast in educational videos that will be used during German class at SPES. Students will sing, role play and have conversations with puppets, Frau Snyder, their classmates and guests.

  38. High Tech Treasure Hunts Geocaching Ms. Cagle 2-5 Join me for a modern-day treasure hunt! Geocaching is a puzzle to solve, a brain teaser, a hidden treasure. The learning possibilities involved in geocaching are endless. You’ll use your understanding of latitude, longitude, basic geography tools, problem solving, and technology to learn more about the area around Sunset Park. By using GPS devices, you will use technology that is fun and useful. Geocaching will exercise your mind and body. Join me for an adventure that will last a life time!
