  1. GOVERNMENT What type do you think would be the best?

  2. So what is Government? • Government is a set of rules that are carried out by a select group of people. These rules are expected to be abided by, by all citizens that reside in that location.

  3. What are some types • Capitalism – (example: Russia) In a capitalist, people  own their own businesses and property and must buy services for private use, such as healthcare. • Basically an economic system where anyone can start their own business for their own profit. As compared to communism where the state tells you what your job will be.

  4. What are some types • Socialism (example: Norway) System of social organization in which private property and the distribution of income are subject to social control; also, the political movements aimed at putting that system into practice. Any government That is capable of Giving you everything You need, is also Capable of taking Away everything you Have earned.

  5. SHORT STORY ABOUT SOCIALISM • This is a story about two students. The first student is hard working and getting an “A,” while the other student is lazy and is getting an “F.”  Socialism dictates that this isn’t fair, so their grades are equalized whereas the “A” student is bumped down two grades, and the “F” student is bumped up two grades, resulting in both students getting a “C.”  The problem of course is that the “A” student only works hard for so long until he gives up because he knows that no matter how hard he works he will only get a “C” in the name of fairness.

  6. What are some types • Communism (example: Cuba) In a communist country, the government owns all businesses and farms and provides its people's healthcare, education and welfare, or in other words the government owns everything, collects all earnings, then distributes the money out equally to all people.

  7. What are some types • Republic (example USA) A republic is led by representatives of the voters. Each is individually chosen for a set period of time.

  8. Dictatorship • A rule by one form of leadership that is unrestricted by law, constitutions, or other social and political factors within the state. In words we understand, it means that ONE PERSON makes the rules and EVERYONE has to follow them.

  9. Hammurabi Code ( SLIDE IN PROGRESS) • "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." • This phrase, along with the idea of written laws, goes back to ancient Mesopotamian culture that prospered long before the Bible was written or the civilizations of the Greeks or Romans flowered. • "An eye for an eye ..." is a paraphrase of Hammurabi's Code, a collection of 282 laws inscribed on an upright stone pillar. The code was found by French archaeologists in 1901 while excavating the ancient city of Susa, which is in modern-day Iran. • Hammurabi is the best known and most celebrated of all Mesopotamian kings. He ruled the Babylonian Empire from 1792-50 B.C.E. Although he was concerned with keeping order in his kingdom, this was not his only reason for compiling the list of laws. When he began ruling the city-state of Babylon, he had control of no more than 50 square miles of territory. As he conquered other city-states and his empire grew, he saw the need to unify the various groups he controlled. • A Need for Justice • Hammurabi keenly understood that, to achieve this goal, he needed one universal set of laws for all of the diverse peoples he conquered. Therefore, he sent legal experts throughout his kingdom to gather existing laws. These laws were reviewed and some were changed or eliminated before compiling his final list of 282 laws. Despite what many people believe, this code of laws was not the first
