Questions? • If you think of a question during the session but don’t want to interrupt, text your question to 60300 in the format ‘iwmw2005 ask [your question]’ e.g. text iwmw2005 ask What does it cost to send an SMS through the API that you use?to 60300Your question will be posted live on a web page and answered at the end (time permitting!)

  4. http://www.itagg.com/ and http://www.itagg.biz/

  5. Introduction • I’m a simple man, so this is not ‘cutting edge’ stuff, just examples of simple but potentially useful things that you can do with SMS APIs and web interfaces etc • What’s right for Birkbeck may not be right for you- think about what YOUR institution needs and if any of today’s examples are relevant then go for it. If not, ignore it, but make sure you can dress that up in ‘management speak’ when a zealous senior manager says she thinks it would be a good idea!

  6. A (very) brief primer • SMS • MMS • SMS/MMS Gateways and APIs • Web interfaces/Data interfaces • WAP/Location services/Mapping • Short codes/long numbers/dedicated numbers

  7. What can we do? • How good is your imagination? • Marketing • News alerts (e.g. Birkbeck’s School of History, Classics and Archaeology system) • Questions/Feedback (e.g. for this workshop) • Voting (e.g. Borough Green Bypass) • Fieldtrip reports and photos • System monitoring and alerts • Etc

  8. Questions and Quiz • Any questions? (check questions page) • Quiz – win a full iTAGG plus £10 of message credit(total prize value = £186)
