Campus/Arts “IT” updates • CMS update • See: Daily Bulletin for details: • (Part 1) http://www.bulletin.uwaterloo.ca/2009/jul/31fr.html • (Part 2) http://www.bulletin.uwaterloo.ca/2009/aug/04tu.html • Exchange (‘connect’) email • Arts, as a whole, is not moving to Exchange for email currently, but it is a new option • IST and Administrative Support areas are currently moving to Exchange for email • If Exchange calendar replaces bookit, as it is expected to sometime in 2010, it may be preferable to move to Exchange mail in arts. • IT Task force recommendations • Available from http://provost.uwaterloo.ca/importantmemos.html • A new Computing Technology and Services Committee (CTSC) is being formed • The other recommendations will be explored and will include representatives from across campus.

  6. Setting vacation messages for 'artsservices.uwaterloo.ca' • If you are using Exchange(connect) for email, do not use either of these methods for setting your vacation message. MS Word/Adobe Contribute ‘tips’ • Contribute: • How to properly link to pages within Contribute without using a mapped drive • Linking to pages that already exist on the web site • Linking to files that are on your N: drive or C: drive • Word Tips: • Using section breaks to • Have landscape pages • Have page numbering change part way through a document • See http://www.ist.uwaterloo.ca/ew/thesis/ThesisCourse/WordTheses.html

Roaming Profiles • Profiles store things such as: • Desktop icons • Program settings • Items in your recycle bin • Internet favourites/bookmarks • Standard Profiles are stored on your local drive. Roaming Profiles are stored on a network drive. • Why Roaming Profiles? • So when you to move to another computer, you will still have the ‘look’ of your own computer, access to your Internet favourites, etc. • If profiles get too large your log in and log off process can get quite slow • What can you do? • Store all your files on your N: drive • Don’t store any files on your desktop (just shortcuts to files and programs) • Empty your Recycle bin regularly
