  4. Design • Fan Connected to generator through pulleys • The generator has a spinning coil • Magnets are set around the coil • The coil is soldered to piece of copper tape on the spinning shaft • Wires rest on copper tape to send current to light bulb

  5. Efficiency • Theoretical Power - - A = Area = 0.011 m^2 V= Velocity = 21.5 m/s ρ = density of air = 1.2 kg/m^3 Theoretical Power = 67.0 watts

  6. Efficiency (contd.) • P = IV • = 1.2 * 6 = 7.2 watts • V= voltage • I = Current (amps) • Efficiency = = 10.7%

  7. Design Issues • Spin coil or spin magnets? • Getting light bulb to light • Overcoming friction from pulleys • Getting coil to spin fast enough

  8. Conclusion • A spinning coil was used to decrease the weight • Lubrication was used to decrease friction • Pulleys with a 15:1 ratio were used to get the shaft spinning fast enough • Efficiency = 10.7 %
