Aims & Objectives • Establish a Thematic Network • Encourage better understanding • Promote higher standards and quality assurance • Assist each other in a European context of development • Share, exchange and debate different educational approaches • Maximize our combined intellectual resources • Provide an electronic bulletin board for exchange of information • Promote best practices in European dental education and research

Taskforce I: Profile and Competences for the New European Dentist Objectives: • To tune dental education and establish an agreed profile for the dentist based on learning units, generic and professional competences, and • To seek agreement from European dental schools to this profile through strategic alliances within academic dentistry and the involvement of national competent authorities and national organisations.

Eur J Dent Educ. • Translations ready in Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Slovak & Turkish; underway in Spanish, Italian, others. • List of European and National Assoc., ministries of Health, etc. , national coordinator? • Review process starts in 2007, due in 2009

  11. TASKFORCE II – Curriculum Structure and ECTS Objective: • To develop an agreed approach to the application of a modularised curriculum, including ECTS, that should not impose a single curriculum or single educational approach.

  15. TSKF II: Where are we now • Document Part I approved by General Assembly and in print now in EJDE • Part II, draft document send to all > 200 dental schools • Amendment of text in may, final document send out for approval in Krakow in september 2006 • To be published in EJDE in 2007

  16. TASKFORCE III – Benchmarking and Quality Assurance Objective: • To develop a quality assurance model for the European curricula by identifying and agreeing to indicators for benchmarking. • Draft document send out to > dental schools • Due for approval by GA in Krakow

TASKFORCE IV – GLOBAL CONGRESS Objectives: • To establish a global network in dental education in collaboration with all continental dental education associations and IFDEA • The Global Congress will be held in Dublin in 2007 • This taskforce will manage preparations and prepare a submission to Erasmus Mundus to assist funding for delegates from non-EU countries with emerging economies and poverty. • Programme ready • Speakers engaged • Dublin Casttle ADEE/DentEd sept 4-8, 2007

  18. TASKFORCE V – CREATION OF PERMANENT OFFICE IN DUBLIN Objective: To establish a sustainable permanent office in Dublin that will carry the project after EU funding has ceased. This office will be funded by joining DentEd to ADEE and will be made financially viable from subscriptions from member organisations. • Objective realised !

TASKFORCE VI – DENTAL STUDENTS’ AFFAIRS OBJECTIVE: To maximise the relationship between DentEd, ADEE and EDSA and to obtain student input and feedback on the profile and competences document, the ECTS and curriculum structure document, and to participate in Taskforce III – benchmarking and quality assurance.
