  1. 3rd Grade Art E-Day Welcome!

  2. Let’s review the Renaissance! • The Renaissance began in Italy • Famous Renaissance artists include: Leonardo Raphael Michaelangelo Donatello

  3. Just kidding! • The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were named for the real Renaissance artists Michaelangelo Leonardo Da Vinci Raphael Donatello

  4. But… there were more than just those four, we are going to learn about another famous Renaissance Artist today! Albrecht Durer

  5. Albrecht Durer was famous for… • Print making • Incredible detail • Animals • Paintings

  6. His animals prints and paintings show incredible detail:

  7. Albrecht Durer was famous for a drawing of an animal he never saw! • A friend of tDurer’s traveled to a country far away. While he was in that country he encountered an animal he had never seen before. When he returned to Germany where Durer was from, he told Durer all about this incredible animal. Durer made a print of that animal based on his friend’s description. That print became the illustration used in important books such as a dictionary for that animal.

  8. What was that animal? • Let’s find out! Grab a piece of paper and a writing utensil and draw along with my description. • This animal has a medium to long body. • This animal has a potbelly (that means that it’s belly hangs low) • It has a long face with a flat snout. • On the end of its snout it has a horn. • Behind that horn, towards the middle of this animal’s face, there is another triangluar horn. • The animals eyes are set low on either side of its face. • It has pointed ears with a rounded tip on its heat that sit on either side. • This animal has lots of folds in its skin that sometimes look like armor.

  9. Do you think you know what this animal is? If you know the answer, create a sticky by double clicking on the red-orange background. Write your first name, last name and your guess. If you want to bring your drawing in to show me, I would love to see it, but you don’t have to.
