  1. Choose a Side: Should Students Wear School Uniforms Many schools are enforcing policies that require students to wear school uniforms, or are making stricter dress codes. In the space to the left, tell about your school’s dress code. Are you required to wear uniforms? Is there a strict dress code, or do students wear whatever they like? What do you think about it? Is it too strict, or too free? • What is your school’s dress code like? What is your opinion of it?

  2. What do other people think about school uniforms? • Who do you think has a better argument? Who do you agree more with? Read the articles below to get an idea about school uniforms and some of the reasons that schools require them. Of the four people who offer their opinion, who do you think has the best argument? Who do you agree more with? http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/magazines/story/0,6277,1022841,00.html http://web.ebscohost.com/srck5/detail?vid=3&hid=105&sid=5c69d4e6-3081-4d48-91f0-f07ddc5b0784%40sessionmgr102

  3. What do you think of this dress code? Positives: Negatives: Students at Indiana’s largest school corporation recently began wearing school uniforms. Some parents supported the idea, while others opposed it. Read about their dress code in the brochure through the link below. No matter what you think about school uniforms, write two reasons why this particular dress code would be a good idea, and two reasons why it would not. http://www.dresscode.ips.k12.in.us/Communities/dresscode/Assets/IPSDresscode.pdf

  4. One student was so upset that his brother had to wear school uniforms that he started a webpage over the issue. In the link below he lists several reasons why he opposes school uniforms. What do you think of his arguments? Which of his arguments do you agree with? http://www.angelfire.com/ca/bygranite/uniforms/summary • Do Peter’s arguments make sense? Which of his arguments do you agree with?

  5. What does this Cartoon Say? Look at the cartoon below. What do you think it is saying about school uniforms? Do you think that even if a school does not require uniforms, students wear similar things anyway? • What do you think this cartoon is saying about school uniforms?

  6. What do you think? Based on everything that you have read about school uniforms, tell your opinion in at least two paragraphs. Back up your opinion with specific facts and information that you have learned. Feel free to do further research on the topic, and to talk to other adults and students to hear their thoughts. • What is your opinion about school uniforms?
