  2. 4chan • 4chan is an English-language imageboard website. Users generally post anonymously, often with offensive languages and images . Users also target pretty much anyone who looks like decent entertainment, sabotaging and trolling them.

  4. Dub the Dew Recently, the Dub the Dew campaign, an online contest for people to name a new green apple-infused Mountain Dew drink on the website DubTheDew.com was raided by 4chan users who flooded the poll with joke names and subsequently hacked the website’s front page. Names like “Diabeetus” and “Moist Nugget” all topped the charts.

  5. On Monday afternoon, 4chan unleashed its latest prank on the Internet: a campaign to get Justin Bieber fans to cut themselves in order to stop the teen singer from smoking marijuana. • Several photos have since been posted of alleged real fans having cut themselves • The message board had in 2012 convinced several Bieber fans to shave their heads following with a fabricated story that the pop star had cancer.

  7. Psychology • The users hiding behind anonymity, expresses mob mentality and deindividuation, which leads to loss of restraint. • The blatant use of foul languages may indicate the dominance of the id, the pleasure principle of Sigmund Freud’s structural model of the psyche. • Stanley Milgram’s “Obedience” series – famous psychological studies from the 1960s – showed people were more willing to hurt a test subject if they had less of a connection with that person, This same principle explains why people act more maliciously when they have anonymity.
