  1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE VIPER MEDICAL NETWORK(VMN)

  2. WHAT IS HAPPENING? • The North Carolina VIPER emergency radio system is being upgraded to a new increased capability “P-25” system.

  3. WHAT IS HAPPENING? • All VIPER radios must be programmed to the new standard to remain operational after the P-25 system is implemented.

  4. VIPER MEDICAL P-25 UPDATE • Hospital VMN radios are being reprogrammed starting in December 2012 and continuing through the first quarter of 2013.

  5. VIPER MEDICAL P-25 UPDATE • All VMN hospital radios are being programmed with both the “old” VMN channels and the new P-25 VMN channels so the radios can remain operational during and after the system upgrade.

  6. TELL THE DIFFENENCE To tell the difference between the “old” and the new P-25 channels, look at the zone indicator. • The “old” channels have lower case letter zone designators. • The “new” P-25 channels have UPPER CASE zone designators.

  7. When a radio is programmed for P-25: The “old” VMN talk group zone designator will be in lower case font.

  8. When the radio is programmed for P-25: The “new” P-25 VMN Talk Group is in UPPER CASE font.

  9. old vs. NEW Lower case UPPER case

  10. Hospital Radio OLDChannel (lower case)

  11. Hospital Radio New P-25 Channel (UPPER CASE)

  12. VIPER MEDICAL P-25 UPDATE • Continue to operate in the “old” lower case mode until your geographic area converts to the P-25 system. • When your geographic region migrates to the P-25 system, change to the new P-25 channel to remain operational.

  13. CONFUSION FACTOR • There will be confusion during the change because all radios, prior to the P-25 programming, had upper case zone fonts so they look like the new channel.

  14. CONFUSION FACTOR • If your radio has been programmed, use the lower case channel name until your geographic area has moved to P-25 operation. • You will receive a notification when your geographic area will change.

  15. VIPER MEDICAL P-25 UPDATE • If you have questions, Call Danny Allen at (919) 855-4687, or send him an email at danny.allen@dhhs.nc.gov
