  11. ResourcesResources are links to files, URLs, repository items or constructed web pages.

Use the HTML Editor to its Full Potential Moodle’s Tiny MC HTML editor is very similar to a word processor. • Customize fonts and backgrounds • Create links and anchors • Insert tables • Display pictures and emoticons • Clean up messy word HTML formatting. • Embed rich media by toggling to HTML source

  13. Create a Resource in your course • Create a Label • Create a Page • Add a URL • Upload a file • Create a folder • Practice duplicating, moving and removing your newly created resources.

  14. ActivitiesActivities are interactive components of the course that are typically graded upon completion.

  16. The Forum ActivitySelect a forum type that matches your goals.

  17. The Assignment ActivityAssignments allow instructors to collect work from students, review it and provide feedback/grades.

  18. The Quiz ActivityMoodle’s quiz module is a powerful assessment tool with numerous options.

  19. More Hands on Activities: Creating Assignments Task 1: Create an Online Text assignment Add an Online Text assignment activity. Name activity as Topic 1 journal and add a fictitious prompt. Task 2: Add a Forum discussion Add a Standard forum for general use (or one of the other types). Add your prompt and Save changes. From the front page, click on the Forum activity. Add an example post.

  20. Switch role to… An instructor has the ability to “switch roles” – allowing him/her to view the course through the lens of another role. It’s easy to do this: • Turn editing on • From the Settings block, select a role from the Switch role to…options

  22. Blocks Features that are similar to an app, widget or gadget. Some blocks are Moodle core and available to all clients; some are joule only. Add blocks from the drop-down menu while editing is turned on for the course. If a block isn’t available in the Blocks drop-down, it may need to be enabled by an admin for the site. blocks

  24. Hands-on: Exploring a Moodle course Log in to the system. Identify the Navigation and Settings blocks. Dock the Navigation block and browse through the options. Dock the Settings block and browse through options. Dock another course block and then undock it. Find the course FallPilot2011-Your Name Use breadcrumbs to return to the course main page.

User profileThe user profile page gathers together all known information about a particular user. • You can do the following from your Profile page: • Edit personal details • Upload your picture • Modify your site preferences • Track forum participation • Blog • Enter and view notes • View reports

  31. Calendar blockCalendar enables users to manage personal and assigned events.

  32. Hands-on: Calendar • Create a calendar event. • Click on the month you want to add an event. • Click on the New Event button. • Add an event ( e.g. your birthday, homework reminder).

  34. Enables private communication Messages can be sent to multiple users If a recipient is offline, the message can be emailed to him/her by default Messaging

  35. How does Messaging work? Screen Layout • Left : List of people to message. • Right: Your message or history with a user. My contacts drop-down menu allows you to contact course participants and view previous conversation and notifications.

  36. Hands on: Messaging Task 1: Send messages to course participants Go to Navigation > My courses. Select one of the courses. Click on the Participants link. Send a message to all course participants. Task 2: Messaging Preferences Go to Settings > My profile settings > Messaging to opt to be notified when you receive a new message.
