  3. Statement of the Problem • The law recognizes that parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. If children are to be successful in school parents must participate actively in their children’s academic lives. In this research project, we will attempt to prove that by increasing parental involvement in their child’s academic life, the child’s grades and overall academic achievement will be improved. Parent involvement for the purpose of this research includes reading to the child for a minimum of three times per week, assisting with homework daily, and attending parent / teacher conferences.

Review of Hypothesis • Through this research, we will provide evidence to prove that parental involvement in a child’s academic life will have a positive improvement on that child’s grades and overall performance in school. • Two 6th Grade classes of 25 students in a Brooklyn public school will be assessed.
