CASARA ELT Homing Presentation to CASARA Training Officers Meeting March 09, 2013 Team Members who worked on this were: Mike Casey, Mike Blizzard, Clarence Demchuk, Earl Lafferty and Dan Butler Also Thanks to those in various provinces that prepared slides presentations that we utilized in our work.

  2. Tasking(from 2012 Training Officers meeting) • That CASARA develop LL 16 homing procedures which would include ground homings, homings using strut mounted antennas and homings using roof mounted antennas. • That CASARA develop re-currencies for the above mentioned homing procedures. • That CASARA develop a badge that would recognize CASARA members certified to do Ground Homings using the LL 16 Homer.

  3. Task: Procedures for ground homings • The team built the procedures in the form of PowerPoint slide presentations that can be used for Training. • This training package consists of 9 modules.

  4. Initial Training: Module 1 - LL-16 SAR Video Module 2 - Radio Basics Module 3 - LL-16 series Operations (orange digital model) Module 4 – Ground ELT Homings Module 5 – Vehicle ELT Homings Module 7 – On Scene Management

  5. To home ELTs from an aircraft, those members shall also complete Module 6 – Aircraft ELT Homings Module 9 – ELT Homing – Aural Null

  6. Supplemental Training Module 8 – LH series L-Per Operations (blue analog model)(For zones still using this older homer) Module 10 – LA Series Fixed Homer Module 11– Homing a Project Life Saver VHF FM bracelet

  7. Recommended Re-currencies • Module 3 LL-16 Operations • 3 Homings per year for ground. • No change for air, which is presently 1 Aural Null and 3 ELT homings per year.

  8. Badges • Shoulder badge for LL-16 Ground ELT homing CASARA members. • ?? Wings for LL-16 Air ELT homing CASARA members.??

  15. Recommendations • Use the training modules as developed to train ELT homing, (put the Training modules on the Casara Web site) • Establish annual recurrent training using Module 3, and 3 ground homings a year, • Award Ground Badges and /or Air Wings and similar to those show above. • ELT Ground Homing Specialists receive volunteer hours credit on CMS.
