  1. Learning from Mary, Mother of Jesus Dr. Jerry Tallo Sunday, December 9th, 2012

  2. Luke 1:26-29 (ESV) • In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be.

  3. Luke 1:30-33 • And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

  4. John 14:16-18 • And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

  5. Ephesians 2:1-3 • And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

  6. Ephesians 2:4-7 • But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

  7. Genesis 2:7 • then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

  8. Conclusions • * An average woman with an average life • * God "showed up", and "shows up" today • * Had a simple humility God chose to use. Do I? • * Did not take God's presence for granted. Do I? • * Found favor without earning it. Have I? • * Holy Spirit wants to (or has) birthed a new life and destiny in me • - How do I respond? "Your will be done, Lord?"
