  3. Layered Review Promotional layered review involves: • Regents • Provost & President • College of LSA • Departments & Programs

  4. Your role The promotion process is handled differently in each unit

New Guidelines from Provost Effective AY13-14: • Joint Appointments • Document in the casebook contributions to interdisciplinary teaching (pages 11 & 17). • Document in the casebook specific expertise & contributions to collaborative research that indicate research independence (pages 11 & 19). • External Reviewers List • Insert biographical paragraph in front of each external review letter (page 21). Effective AY14-15: • Solicitation Letter • Revised language for confidentiality statement in solicitation letter (pages 26 & 28 of template letters)

  6. PROMOTION REMINDERS & TIPS • Delay of Tenure Review • Joint Appointments • External Review Letters • Conflict of Interest for Candidates • CV Tips • Cut-off Dates

  7. Consulting with the Associate Dean Chair/director should contact your Divisional Associate Dean: • Regarding special circumstances. • When requesting a waiver of written promotion policy. • Regarding negative elements of a promotion case.

College Wrap-Up • November 2013 to mid-February 2014 DEC reviews & College EC reviews and votes • February 12th - Provost’s deadline confirmed • February 28th - Divisional associate deans notify chairs/directors of College decisions • Early May - Provost communicates decisions • May 15th - Regents confirm promotion decisions 10

  11. When the EC Declines to Promote • Notification to Department • Appeal • Final EC Decision • Notification to Candidate 11

  12. Deadlines • Wednesday, November 6th (noon) for promotion with tenure & research faculty cases • Thursday, January 2nd (noon) for promotion to professor & research faculty promotion cases
