TRAC Assessment • Focused on institutional repository, rather than image collections • Planned assessment would aim to formulate policies for preservation • Findings • Access and infrastructure are more developed, policy needs to catch up • Areas of need for formulating policy • Standardizing definition of enduring value  • Establishing and enforcing policy on long-term access commitment • Guidelines on following digital preservation standards

Current Preservation Projects • Digitization for preservation purposes or Digital Preservation? • Kannapolis • NDIIPP • Reformatting of Metcalf documents • Exploratory video projects--NASA videos, question of file format for preservation vs. access • Other collections and publishing projects with preservation implications

Technical Infrastructure • Special Collections • Sun Thumper, 12TB (used), 18TB usable • RAID 5, backup to tape • NDIIPP • ATA BEAST storage, 7TB (used), 13TB usable • Mirrored RAID 5, backup to tape • LOCKSS servers • 2x 1TB Iron Mountain servers (dual core, 2GB) • Responsibilities included in 1FTE server/hardware administrator • Security by UNIX file permissions, firewalls allow white list of clients. Some automated file verification (for NDIIPP) • Funding from general operations budget • Looking towards duplication across sites--Centennial / Hill for disaster recovery and redundancy
