Evaluating the domestic work is one of the aims of the time use survey and to be able to make a good assessment by using the specialized substitute method which allows an interesting representation of « what should have been paid to get the work done ». And in order to choose the right profession that we consider as a substitute to a particular domestic, we must make the distinction between the following activities:

  3. Children care/ physical care, add the following activities: Take a child to a doctor ( corresponding profession: home aids , homemakers, family workers). Children medical care ( nurses). Play with children ( leisure and cultural moderators).

  4. Decoration, maintenance, add the following activities: Moving Repairs, installing computers

  5. In terms of routes: take into consideration the used mode and distinguish between routes. Route from home to work by car. Children routes . Route to another household. Associative routes.

  6. Unpaid work for an another household, add the following activities: Cooking Cleaning and arranging the house Washing and ironing clothes Administrative services Vehicle repairs and maintenance Gardening

  7. Add a group for semi-leisure activities such as: Bricolage (Do-it-yourself) Gardening Artistic creations: including sculpture, painting, literature… Caring for pets
