  1. A Quick Guide for Starting a Push Lawn Mower Starting the lawn mower will vary for each brand and model of the lawn mower. This content will help you to get started on.

  2. Step 1: Check Fuel and Oil Levels After your lawn mowing session is completed, you need to refill the fuel and also check the level of oil. Commonly what happens is that after finishing the lawn mowing, people just tend to put their mower aside unattended all winter and when it is taken back for lawn mowing, often forget to check the fuel and oil levels and so the mower doesn’t start up appropriately. • Fill up the fuel to the desired level. • Ensure the motor oil level is proper in your mower. Without proper levels of oil, it will harm the engine. • Some two stroke engines require a mixture of fuel and oil. So follow manufacturer’s instructions thoroughly.

  3. Step 2: Using Prime Button •  You need to look for the prime button, which would be red or black in colour and usually it is located near the spark plug. In order to force the fuel into the lines, you need to push it 3 to 4 times; however, don’t overdo it else it will flood the engine. • Remember not all lawn mowers possess a prime button; in such case, just open the throttle entirely for activating the choke. Ensure the motor oil level is proper in your mower. Without proper levels of oil, it will harm the engine.

  4. Step 3:Examine the Spark Plug • On to the rear or side of the motor, you would be able to see the end of the spark plug that is sticking with a lid that appears like a broad cable with a rubber cap fixed to it. This facilitates the motor to operate smoothly, so you need to ensure that the lid is securely fixed to the spark plug.

  5. Step 4:Unlock the Throttle • In order to keep the engine running smoothly after starting it, you need to place the throttle lever in the middle to high position so that consistent fuel is delivered to the engine.

  6. Step 5: Be Careful when Starting the Lawn Mower • In case your lawn mower is older and does not contain a safety switch, ensure it’s steady and placed on level ground. The latest lawn mowers come with an integral safety switch which you require holding down when starting. When starting up the mower, you need to pull and hold it.

  7. Step 6: Pull up Penetratingly • When holding the starting lever support your arm and grip the starter handle (fixed at the end of a string or cable) and pull up speedily and tightly. You may need to repeat it number of times before the motor starts up. • When starting up, if it clutters and sounds like starting up, but really it doesn’t start up, you need to examine the fuel level in the fuel tank. • If the required level of fuel is there and still it does not start, you should examine whether the spark plug is properly fixed or not.

  8. Step 7: User Manual • Suppose you are still not able to start your mower, you need to refer the manufacturer’s user manual and go over lawnmower’s check up and troubleshooting procedure.
