  2. What is Acute Prostatitis? Acute prostatitis iscaused by bacterial infection in theprostate gland causing a sudden inflammation. This common type of prostatitis is easily recognized due to the typical symptoms. However, sometimes an urgent patient’s hospitalization may be required.

  3. What Causes It? Acute prostatitis is usually caused by the same bacterial that results in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and urinary tract infection (UTI). Bacteria like proteus, klebsiella and E. coli are commonly cause acute prostatitis. •Some other conditions also can cause this type of prostatitis, such as: •Inflammation of the epididymis (Epididymitis) •Inflammation of the urethra (Urethritis) •Perinium injuries (the area between rectum and scrotum) •Cystoscopyor Urinary Catheters •Obstruction in bladder outlet •Phimosis (inability to pull back the foreskin of the penis)

The symptoms of acute prostatitis include chills, pelvic pain, fever, painful urination, blood in the urine, frequent urination, foul-smelling urine, difficulty in emptying the bladder and starting of urinate, painful ejaculation and blood in semen and pain in testicles and above the pubic bone. What is the Treatment? This type of prostatitis is treated with antibiotics for four to six weeks. Antibiotics, alpha blockers and pain killers are being prescribed to decrease discomfort and relax bladder muscles. Doctors often remind their patients to: •Avoid bicycling •Avoid spicy and acidic foods, alcohol and caffeine •Sit on soft pillow or doughnut cushion •Take warm water baths
