  3. Networking basics • TCP/IP • DHCP • Classes and Subnetting • WiFi Standards • 802.11a,b, g, n • Bluetooth • File exchange/ synchronisation with various bluetooth devices e.g. Cell phone, iPod

  4. Wireless Base Stations • Airport Extreme • We will use these to act as our internet gateway • To create new networks that others may or may not! access • Airport Express • We will use these to bridge (extend) the Extreme networks • Network Access Storage • Connect to a hard drive attached to the Extreme/ Express • Back up with Time machine

  5. MAMP Mackintosh Apache MySQL PHP • A complete web development platform for dynamic database driven web sites • Moodle • Very effective when used as a development repository or even for class teaching/ lesson plans/ local assessment alongside the national platform • A ‘test’ environment • Administration + Monitoring

  6. Mac OS Webserver Mac has its own Apache Webserver Can be used as a ‘test’ environment Can setup local or network access Useful for local access when internet not available

  7. Terminal • Mac OS X CLI • Command Line Interface • Derived from UNIX • Access to the Mac OS ‘behind the scenes’ • Useful to know • E.g. to upgrade the MAMP environment you have to run an automatic script from the terminal window.
