P3/ P4 STELLAR Programme • STELLAR - (STrategies for English Language Learning And Reading) • The STELLAR vision: Children who love reading and have a strong foundation in the English Language • Strengthen the teaching of English through a balanced combination of explicit instruction in language skills, including grammar and phonics, and the use of age-appropriate children’s stories.

Approach to Assessment • Holistic perspective to assessment - with variety, balance, regular feedback and positive achievement as key considerations • Teach pupils all the areas of language learning, namely: • Listening, Reading and Viewing (Receptive Skills) • Speaking, Writing and Representing (Productive Skills) • Grammar and Vocabulary (Knowledge about Language) • School-based assessment/ examination is aligned with the EL Syllabus 2010, STELLAR curriculum and the New PSLE Format

  30. Alternative Assessment (AA) • Pupils are given opportunities to listen, read, view, speak, write and represent to demonstrate their language competence. Examples of P3-P4 EL AA Tasks include: • Comprehending Short Texts using Text Deconstruction • Identifying Elements of a Narrative • Reflective Journal Writing • Readers’ Theatre Presentation • Book/ Story Character Review • Podcast

How can parents support their children’s learning and proficiency in English at home? • Get children to read extensively (a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books). • Read with your children and engage them in conversation afterwards i.e. seek out opportunities for meaningful interactions with them.
