  9. Internet2 Applications • Interactive, distance-independent learning • Interactive, network-based collaboration • Real-time modeling and simulation • Large-scale, multi-site computation and database processing • Shared virtual reality - “teleimmersion”

  10. Abilene Project • Provide advanced network testbed • Support Internet2 applications development • Demonstrate next generation operational and quality of service capabilities • Create facilities for network research • Anticipate end of vBNS program

UCAID Current Priorities • Establish backbone connectivity to all member sites • Facilitate cooperation and middleware implementation • Coordinate with the computer science community • Complete staff recruitment • Identify & develop 1st phase applications • Strengthen Board, staff, member & sponsor relationships
