  2. Project Overview PROMOTE THE VOTE! Second graders are working with Reid Wilson, a senior at North High School, to promote the vote for our upcoming presidential election in November! Students have been asked to come up with a way to inform our community about the importance of voting. They will help Reid “PROMOTE the VOTE,” while he collects data on the percentage of eligible residents who vote in the election. We are so excited to see what the second graders come up with to help!

  4. Standards 2.W.1 Write an opinion piece in which they introduce a topic, state an opinion, supply reasons to support opinion and provide a concluding statement. Writing Promote the Vote Noise Level 1 • Monday: Think about what it would be like to be president of the United States. What would you do if you were elected president? What would you change? Would you make any new laws? What would you keep the same? Write a paragraph about what you would do if you were elected president. Be sure to include the vocabulary terms such as: elected, leader, and citizens. • Tuesday: Finish writing your paragraph about being president. Trade with a partner and share your writing. • Wednesday: Use the graphic organizer to write ideas for your letter to the editor, public service announcement or brochure to promote the vote. • Thursday: Begin writing your letter, public service announcement or brochure on ways to get people to vote. • Friday: Continue writing the draft of your letter, public service announcement, or brochure. • Materials Needed • Graphic Organizer • Pencil • Paper • Computer Project Connection: Promote the Vote! Self-Selected Reading/Accelerated Reader Standards RF2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension Noise Level 0 Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. Silently read . After you finish your book, write the name of the book in your Data Binder. Be sure to fill in the information about your book in your binder. If you can answer all the questions in your Data Binder, get your laptop and log on to AR to take your test.
