  1. Using the “Open as Web Folder” Option (The easy way to manage files)

  2. To use this function: Click File Manager Action Link

  3. Action Link menu appears: Select Open as Web Folder

  4. The folder opens in a new window: You can manage files from this window!

  5. You can: • Add a new folder • Open subfolders • Edit files, etc. Note: • Everything you do in this window directly affects course files and course structure! BUT WebCT keeps track of all the changes and links inside the course!

  6. “Open as Web Folder” function: More about • Actually opens a WebDAV connection to your computer. • Go to Start/My Computer/My Network Places • You will see a numbered file that corresponds to the web folder window number.

  7. Suggestions: • Change the assigned number to the name of your course. Why? Every time you “open as web folder” a new numbered connection appears in My Network Places. If you use this function often, you will have numerous connections listed in under My Network Places. This can be confusing. Once you have a named course link, you can delete any extra numbered files.

  8. Implications: • You can manage files from this folder without entering your course! • Just click on the connection and you will be prompted to enter your user name and password. • When you click OK, you are connecting directly to the File Manager of your course. • You can drag and drop files from this window to folders on your computer, and vice versa.
