What was the estates general

What was the Estates General ?

  • Large scale meetings held time to time.

  • Chosen delegates from various social classes presented their grievances to their ruler.

  • Rulers promised to provide

    remedies or reforms.


Powers of estates general

Powers Of Estates General

  • The right to deny new tax appropriations.

  • Wrote their grievances in notebooks known as cahiers.

  • Estates General lost power in the 1400s and 1500s.

  • Last meeting took place in 1614.

  • 160 years before Louis XVI became king.

  • In 1788 a meeting was called by Louis XVI.
