  1. Environmental Effects of Space Travel Rocket engines emit reactive gases that cause ozone molecules to break apart. Rocket launches are responsible for roughly 1 percent of the total ozone depletion that can be attributed to human causes. When rockets launch, space debris are left floating in our atmosphere. This is dangerous because a big one could come back to earth in the form of an asteroid. Rockets emit soot into the atmosphere that lasts there for years. Some dump from spacecraft go directly into the upper and middle stratosphere, where they can start causing damage. The exhaust from space-ship engines does add several kilotons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere every year. Rocket launches chemically contaminate the soil around it. It’ll take 30 years to clean up the chemical plumes caused by the launches at the Kennedy space center. It takes a lot of work and a lot of equipment to manufacture the rare materials that can only be found by drilling mines, which drills some the earth’s delicate habitats RED 1 Courteany Diaz Landy Martinez Cameron Caldera Bryan Cardenas Ulises Cardoza
