  4. Brazil Facts • It is estimated that 20% of the world’s biodiversity is found in Brazil. • Brazil is home to at least 103,870 animal species and between 43,000 and 49,000 plant species. • Each year about 700 new animal species are discovered in Brazil!

  5. The Amazon • The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. • The Amazon river is over 6,600 km long. • The Amazon is home to one in ten of all known animals and plants.

  9. The Amazon • There are also more than 30 million people living in the Amazon. • The Amazon provides people with jobs, food and water. • Unfortunately the Amazon is threatened by deforestation.

  11. Endangered Species Many of the species that live in the Amazon are considered to be endangered species. The conservation status of a species indicates how great the risk is of that species becoming extinct in the near future: • Extinct • Extinct in the Wild • Critically Endangered • Endangered • Vulnerable • Near Threatened • Least Concern The Brazilian bared-faced tamarin is Endangered

Your Task • In pairs, imagine that you are wildlife TV presenters who have been sent into the depths of the Amazon to film a rare endangered species! • Use the Fact Files provided to find out more about the Amazon and your chosen species. • You can use this information to create your very own script.
