  11. Question of the Day: There are 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. Which is the best estimate of the number of hours in a year? A 12,000 hours B 8,000 hours C 390 hours D 380 hours

  12. 3/6/13 106 Guided Question There are 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. Which is the best estimate of the number of hours in a year? A 12,000 hours B 8,000 hours C 390 hours D 380 hours

  13. This is an ESTIMATION (ROUNDING) question. You need • to round each number to its highest place value. The • highest place value for 24 is the TENS PLACE, so 24 • rounds to 20. The highest place value for 365 is the • HUNDREDS PLACE, so 365 rounds to 400. • You need to MULTIPLY (x) 400 and 20. Ignore • all the zeros and just multiply (x) 4 and 2. 4 x 2 = 8. • Then count all the zeros in the problem. There are 3 • zeros. Put 3 zeros on the end of 8 to make it 8,000. • 8,000 is your answer. 365 400 24 20

  14. 400 x 20 = think 4 x 2 = 8 so 4 00 x 2 0 = 8, 000 The Answer is 8,000
