  2. Description The ancient plant of hawaii the Wauke plant is green with sandpapery leaves. This plant can grow up to 50 feet. The Wauke is a small tree or a shrub so you might just walk by it without noticing it. The leaves are shaped like a heart and can grow up to six inches long three to five inches wide. The plants fruit is orange and round. The flowers head is round and fuzzy. The fruit and flower both are about one inch in diameter.

  4. habitat The Wauke plant lives in moist areas like taro patches. Found near streams and where soil is rich. Wauke mostly grows in open areas like field edges. The plant was found on Oahu,Marquesas,Fiji,Samoa,Tonga,and Kiribati. The Wauke plant is known for growing below 1,500 feet in elevation.

  6. Use in ancient Hawaii In ancient hawaii the Wauke plant was used to make cloth. The inner bark of the plant made fiber. The kapa that it made was used for making bedding,in ceremonial occasions,and was used to rap around the bones of people that passed away. The wauke plant was also made into medicine that cured,mouth diseases. The plant was also used as food plants.

  8. Interesting facts One interesting fact about the Wauke plant is that the plant is hard to find because the clothing that it made became popular. The next interesting fact is that this plant was brought to Hawaii in canoes. The third fact is that the scientific name for Wauke is broussonetia papyrifera. Another fact is that the plant is part of the fig family. The last fact is that the Wauke plant is still used as it was used in ancient Hawaii.

  11. About the author Selah Myers is a nine years old that goes to Waikoloa Elementary and Middle school. She lives in waikoloa village. She loves to watchanime. Her favorite anime is Detective Conan. She is half japanese so she can speak it but she can't write japanese that good. Her birthday is March 19th. In her freetime she draws,plays video games, and watches youtube. Her favorite youtuber is Ryguyrocky (Ryan) and Favremysabre (Sabre).She liked working on this project about the Wauke plant. Her favorite part about this project is drawing the Paper Mulberry.
