  3. CREDENTIALING OVERVIEW • What is faculty credentialing, and why is it important? • Faculty credentialing is a process that ensures faculty are qualified to teach in their subject area. • It is important because we want quality faculty. • It is a vital part of accreditation process for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

  4. CREDENTIALING OVERVIEW • What qualifies a person to teach? • In most cases, a person’s educational background determines what they can teach. In some vocational areas, a person’s professional experience and certain licensures are also needed to qualify.

  5. CREDENTIALING OVERVIEW • Who should be credentialed to teach? • All persons who have direct instructional activity in a class must be credentialed, including primary and secondary instructors. • Non-employees who teach through an agency or contract must also be credentialed – please see the web page at http://www.palmbeachstate.edu/academicservices/information-and-reference/faculty-credentialing-tools.aspx

  6. CREDENTIALING MANUAL • The credentialing criteria in the Academic Management Manual were developed for every course at Palm Beach State College. • This manual must be used to compare the faculty member’s qualifications to the Palm Beach State College standard for that course.

  7. CREDENTIALING MANUAL • The Credentialing Manual is available online at: http://www.palmbeachstate.edu/academicservices/information-and-reference/academic-management-manual/default.aspx and in effect for the current Academic Year, and will be used as written.

  8. THE ONLINE FACULTY CREDENTIALING PROCESS • The process of online credentialing and loading of instructors to classes must occur in the following sequence. COMPLETION PROCESS If approved, send to Academic Services for entry into PantherNet APPROVAL PROCESS Dean’s Council (credit/prep/PSAV) or Associate Dean/Dean (CCE/Avocational) SELECT FACULTY New Faculty/ Existing Faculty REVIEW PROCESS Approval Path Group

  9. TIMELINES and SEQUENCE • Why is the sequence important? • Faculty should have all credentials reviewed and approved PRIOR to being hired to teach. • In the new Instructor Resource Management (IRM) system, instructors must be credentialed and loaded to a class PRIOR to being reported to Human Resources via a Personnel Action Form.

  10. PREPARE FACULTY ROSTER • The Faculty Roster is a summary document that details an instructor’s qualifications • Document includes: • Degrees earned • Graduate courses that qualify a person to teach • Licensure and certifications • Relevant professional experience • Proposed courses to be taught

  11. APPROVAL – CREDIT, PREP and PSAV • The Deans’ Council and VPAA must review and approve any faculty member proposed to teach in any credit, prep or PSAV course.

  12. APPROVAL – CREDIT, PREP and PSAV • Step 1 – Begin a new credential request through Online Faculty Credentialing Database (OFCD) • Step 2 – Select existing faculty or add new faculty and enter new information • Step 3 - Fill-in faculty roster screens making sure all relevant credentials and information are entered • Step 4 – Set up Approval Path to review the roster

  13. APPROVAL – CREDIT, PREP and PSAV • Step 5 – Send to Deans’ Council for review (5 votes including the VPAA to approve the request) • Step 6 – Once approved, send to Academic Services for entry into the IRM

  14. APPROVAL – CCE and Avocational • Step 1 – Follow Steps 1 – 4 approval process for credit course • Step 2 – Send to Academic Services for entry into the IRM

  15. Role of Academic Services • Academic Services staff DOES NOT re-review the approved Faculty Roster as to the instructor’s qualifications to teach. • Academic Services staff will be the only college personnel who have security access to add or modify credentials in OFCD and PantherNet system • Credentials will be loaded immediately once the approved faculty rosters are on queue in the OFCD
